Sure, Holly Golightly isn’t the best role model in the world. She exploited men for their money, was extremely self involved, and ran away from any and all responsibilities. Nonetheless, as a heroine in one of the first romantic comedies she deserves our respect. And you’d be surprised to know there are quite a few things that we can learn from her:
Dress to impress:
Holly is always dressed impeccably, even when she is going to bed. I dare you to find one person who didn’t want a sleeping mask or tassle ear plugs after watching this movie.
Always be the belle of the ball:
Even when throwing her own party she managed to be fashionably late. But, like all good hostesses, she kept the drinks flowing and made sure everyone mingled and had a good time
Don’t fear lipstick:
No matter what she was doing she had her lipstick on. There are at least three different scenes when she is applying it. Holly knew lipstick was a girl’s best friend and is the key to looking put together. No look is ever complete without a little bit of lip color.
New York is the best:
Holly was a very well traveled young woman, from growing up in the midwest to some time in both NY and LA. She saw a lot of different places but chose to live in NY and was a little weary to leave- even if it meant she’d be a diplomats wife in South America.
Class- Fake it ’till you make it:
Before we had role models like Blair Waldorf and Lauren Conrad we learned to be classy ladies from Holly. Even if she wasn’t so classy on the inside she always looked classy on the outside.
When everything goes wrong, get drunk
When Holly’s world gets turned upside down, she takes a night to herself to escape her problems. But just one night. After that she is back to the Holly we know and love and starts to put her life back together again.
Sometimes you just need to break something:
And for those times when all else fails, its helpful to get your emotions out be breaking a lamp or two.
Life is meant to be enjoyed:
Don’t stress the little stuff and have fun. Holly could always come up with a good way to spend the day or a fun, new activity.
Tiffany’s if perfection
Possibly Holly’s most important lesson. She instilled in us a love for Tiffany’s long ago that we have taken with us. Years after seeing this movie my heart still leaps when I see a little blue box coming my way. Maybe I’m incredibly shallow and materialistic but I love Tiffany’s.
